Successful Human Rights Research Conference Held in Yerevan

The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) proudly hosted the “Human Rights Research in Armenia: Current and Emerging Issues” conference on December 1, 2023, at Yerevan State University (YSU). This event, a collaboration with YSU’s Faculty of Law, brought together a diverse group of academics, practitioners, and policymakers to discuss vital human rights issues in Armenia. Welcome remarks were delivered by H.E. Mr. Patrik Svensson, Ambassador of Sweden to Armenia and Dr. Mikayel Hovhannisyan, YSU Vice-Rector for Development and Innovation.

Keynote speakers included Ms. Isabella Sargsyan, Human Rights Programme Director at Eurasia Partnership Foundation, and Dr. Asbed Kotchikian, Associate Professor/Program Chair, International Relations & Diplomacy, American University of Armenia, who offered valuable insights into the role of civil society and research community in human rights reforms.

Highlights:

  • Thematic focus on conflict resolution, environmental rights, gender issues, right to work, poverty, social justice, and inclusion.
  • Engaging contributions from scholars, students, and CSO representatives.
