“When I go back, I’m going to try think about how Microsoft can be more proactive to enhance human rights in our region and across the world.” – Chan Yoon, Regional Counsel, Asia-Pacific & Japan- Corporate, External and Legal Affairs, Microsoft, Singapore, course participant in 2017

Why should you join?

The BLC differs from many other training on these topics offered by consultants. It gives the opportunity to step back, grasp the bigger picture, see new linkages and interactions, and reflect on these alone and together with other stakeholders. It is unusual for these stakeholders to come together for the sake of learning in an applied, problem-driven and solution-oriented manner.

The facilitators are academics with keen interest in practical problems and solutions and highly experienced in providing trainings in multicultural settings around the world. Sharing of experiences is at the heart of both the face to face and e-learning modules – a genuinely interactive and participatory approach.

Some topics covered

• Laws and policies about responsible business conduct
• Examples, dilemmas, tools and reflections on innovative business practice in relation to sustainable development mindful of human rights impacts
• The relationship between the protection of Human Rights and the Environment
• Legal developments and systematic challenges in the protection of human rights in a globalised world

What’s involved?

A 4-day face-to-face session will take place in Bangkok, Thailand between 16-19 September 2019 at Novotel Bangkok Fenix Silom Hotel comprising of introductory sessions and multi-sectoral dialogue around dilemmas, real life cases, and cutting edge initiatives being tested now.

The e-learning component comes next and dives deeper into various facets of environmental protection, gender, development, human rights and the roles of public and private actors therein.

A final 3-day face-to-face component in Bangkok in 5-6 December 2019 (specific dates TBA) will see three specialised workshops for each stakeholder group taking place. The three workshops – on responsible business conduct, the judiciary, and NHRis – allow learning and sharing to take place at a deeper level building upon the two previous stages of the program.

How much does it cost?

It is free of charge, except for private sector participants, who are responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs.
