Reducing Turkish Rejections at the European Court of Human Rights

Thirty-five percent of all Turkish applications to the European Court of Human Rights are rejected due to some procedural or other type of mistake or misunderstanding.

RWI is working to lower that percentage. A recent 2-day workshop with 15 lawyers in Istanbul aimed to strengthen law case applications of Turkish lawyers to the European Court of Human Rights(ECHR) by analyzing the jurisprudence, or the legal system, of the court.

Professors İbrahim Kaboğlu, who is one of the front figure academics in constitutional law, and Atilla Nalban, from the ECHR, led the workshop.

“It is obvious that Turkish lawyers need to develop their understanding, knowledge and experiences in relation to the ECHR and how it funcitons,” says Ilhami Alkan Olsson, Chief Consultant, RWI Turkey.

The workshop was the first gathering of its kind and seven similar workshops are planned to be held in 2018 in cooperation with the Turkish Bar Association.
