Human Rights Defenders and the Role of Business

When human rights defenders are put in danger in an often shrinking civil space, what role can businesses play to make a positive difference to situations where human rights are being violated?

This episode of ’On Human Rights’ features the full length seminar on the role of business in the violation and protection of human rights. The discussion took place at this year’s Mr-Dagarna (human rights days) in Stockholm, Sweden and was a collaboration between the Raoul Wallenberg Intstitute, Forum SydSwedwatch, Diakonia, Amnesty International, Naturskyddsföreningen (Swedish Society for Nature Conservation), Afrikagrupperna and FIAN Sverige.

Frances Quimpo Dungueto from the NGO Center for Environmental Concerns in the Philippines, Baskut Tuncak, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights and toxics, Jakob Kiefer, Ambassador for Sustainable Business (CSR) at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Luisa Book who is the Engagement Lead on Fair Jobs at H&M Global Sustainability department discuss the dangers of being a human rights defender and how businesses have the potential to directly and indirectly influence human rights practices. RWI’s Stockholm Office director, Malin Oud moderates the event.
