The Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission is undertaking a study visit to South Africa’s Public Protector as part of its efforts to enhance its internal policy and administrative systems for dealing with administrative justice issues through learning from regional best practices from well established systems.
This learning visit, which is taking place from 10-12 September 2024 in Pretoria South Africa, provides a valuable opportunity for the ZHRC delegation to gain insights into effective mechanisms for safeguarding human rights and addressing maladministration. During the ZHRC’s time in South Africa, the Commission is engaging in detailed discussions and on various thematic issues of around administrative justice, focusing on South Africa’s approaches to handling complaints, conducting investigations, and fostering transparency in public administration.
The knowledge and strategies exchanges are expected to inform and strengthen the ZHRC’s efforts in tackling issues of maladministration, human rights and navigating best avenues for enhancing good governance through fostering a culture of transparency and accountability within the Zimbabwean jurisdiction. The visit by ZHRC to the South African Public Protector is taking place at the same time when the Public Protector is also hosting the Ombudsman from Mozambique, thus providing an excellent opportunity for the ZHRC to interface, learn and share experiences with the Mozambican counterparts as well.
