In line with the objectives outlined in Section 7 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, which emphasizes the promotion of public awareness of the Constitution, the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) has embarked on a series of human rights awareness campaigns. These campaigns are part of the Commission’s broader mandate to promote and protect human rights within the country. Since December 2024, the ZHRC has been actively engaging with communities in various districts, including Chimanimani, Zaka, Rushinga, and Masvingo, with the goal of educating the public about their rights and responsibilities.
Additionally, similar awareness raising initiatives are planned for the last week of January 2025 in Mudzi District in Mashonaland East province.
These efforts aim to foster active citizenship, as an informed and empowered citizenry is crucial for meaningful participation in national governance and public affairs.
By equipping citizens, especially rural communities, with knowledge about their human rights, the ZHRC seeks to promote civic engagement and contribute to the enhancement of good governance in Zimbabwe as espoused in the country’s national policies includes the National Development Strategy 1 and Vision 2030.
These initiatives are supported by Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) with funding from European Union.
