18 to 20 September 2024 | Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania
The African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR), the Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (CCJ-ECOWAS), and the East African Court of Justice (EACJ) will convene the Second Tripartite Dialogue from 18 to 20 September 2024 in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania.
This event is organized with the support of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI), Swedish International Development Cooperation (Sida), Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNOHCHR), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The primary objective of the Dialogue is to strengthen the promotion and protection of human and peoples’ rights across the continent by fostering effective collaboration between these continental and regional judicial institutions. Participants will engage in meaningful discussions about judicial issues, share best practices, and propose solutions to common challenges faced by the courts in safeguarding human rights.
The discussions will centre around four key topics: the Right to Education, aligned with the African Union’s 2024 theme, Human Rights and the Environment, Financing of International Courts, and a review of the implementation of resolutions from the First Tripartite Judicial Dialogue.
The event will bring together judges and staff from the AfCHPR, the CCJ-ECOWAS, and the EACJ. Additionally, members of relevant African Union and United Nations human rights treaty bodies, as well as experts and representatives from partnering institutions, will actively contribute to the discussions.
This Second Tripartite Dialogue represents a crucial platform for deepening partnerships, fostering judicial exchange, and promoting shared responsibilities in addressing the pressing human rights issues across the continent.
