The Rights of Future Generations after the Summit of the Future.

This event will bring together a group of experts to discuss next steps following the adoption of the Pact for the Future, inclusive of the Declaration on Future Generations at the UN Summit of the Future concluded recently at the United Nations. The discussion will draw from the Report titled, ‘Right to Development of children and future generations’ by the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development, the findings in the article title ‘Children and Future Generations Rights before the Courts: The Vexed Question of Definitions’ by Professor Aoife Nolan, University of Nottingham, the Maastricht Principles on the Human Rights of Future Generations and the work on the rights of future generationsby the World Future Council.

The Panel – Neshan Gunasekera, Visiting Research Fellow and Councilor, World Future Council will be joining an international panel of experts including UN Special Rapporteur on Right to Development Professor Surya Deva, Chair, Drafting Committee, Maastricht Principles on the Human Rights of Future Generations, Professor Sandra Liebenberg and Director, Human Rights Law Centre, School of Law, University of Nottingham as Moderator. The panel will also feature Nicole, a leading Child Advocate from Zimbabwe.
