HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol of Thailand visits the Raoul Wallenberg Institute

On 29 May, Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol of Thailand and senior representatives of the Thai Ministry of Justice paid a courtesy visit to the Raoul Wallenberg Institute. The objective of the visit was for HRH and her delegation to receive information about the work of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute. The Institute presented its different work areas with particular emphasis on international cooperation programmes in South East Asia and in the criminal justice sector.

HRH is currently chairing the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and has taken the initiative to the ELFI Project (Enhancing Lives of Female Inmates) which focuses on improved treatment of female inmates, in accordance with international human rights standards. The project, which is implemented by the office for Justice Affairs under the Thai Ministry of Justice, has played an important role in the development the United Nations Rules for the Treatment of Women Prisoners and Non-custodial Measures for Women Offenders (the Bangkok Rules) which were adopted in 2010 and supplement the Minimum Standard Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners from 1955.
