As part of the development process of the International Humanitarian Law Compliance Monitoring Database (ICMD), the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) convened a third consultation with experts in data gathering and analysis.
The morning session focused on “Data Quality and Analytical Challenges in Humanitarian Law”. Participants worked on identifying safe and reliable methods for collecting data in insecure environments and developing effective, ethical and context-sensitive strategies for data gathering and project dissemination in areas affected by armed conflict.
In the afternoon, the second session addressed the topic of “Project Dissemination and Data Gathering Strategies for ICMD”, give space to understand how to integrate the results of other databases or statistical studies into ICMD.
Launched in 2024, the International Humanitarian Law Compliance Monitoring Database (ICMD) is a collaborative initiative led by RWI aimed at strengthening understanding of compliance with international humanitarian law and supporting principled humanitarian action. This consultation forms part of a broader series of expert engagements planned across areas including data methodologies, legal and ethical considerations, information technology and cybersecurity, and engagement with actors on the ground.
