Human Rights Trainers

The final workshop in the Institute’s Training of Trainers programme was held in Amman 6-10 May 2012. 15 participants from from governmental, non-governmental, national human rights institutions and academic institutions have undergone training since 2008 and are now Master Trainers in Human Rights.

The designed ToT-programme was included in the Institute’s proposal for a three-year regional programme, entitled “Building Human Rights Knowledge and Resources in the Middle East and North Africa”, approved for funding by Sida in November 2009.

The aim was that the participants in the ToT-programme should become Master Trainers in Human Rights. They should gain an in-depth knowledge of human rights issues that could be transferred to individuals and institutions in Arab societies. The participants were selected in 2008 and together with the Institute they designed the programme during a workshop in Alexandria, Egypt. Before the programme closed with the workshop in Amman two workshops focusing on both human rights theory and practice, including training techniques and methodology were carried out in Aqaba, Jordan, respective Lund, Sweden in 2010 and 2011.
