On 18-20 September, the Raoul Wallenberg Institute had the honour of hosting a delegation of academics and defence lawyers from China under a partnership between RWI and the Great Britain China Centre. The goal of the visit was to exchange invaluable experiences and insights on human rights issues surrounding the application of pre-trial detention.
The delegation engaged in a day of thought-provoking discussions with RWI experts, as well as our partners at Lund University. The discussions delved into the nuances of pre-trial detention and its impact on human rights.
Their three day visit featured a panel discussion that included representatives from the Swedish police, prosecution, and judiciary, shedding light on the situation of pre-trial detention in Sweden. It was a unique opportunity to share knowledge and insights across borders. The second day, the delegation’s itinerary continued with a visit to the Danish Institute for Human Rights and a firsthand experience at a pre-trial detention facility, followed by a visit scheduled to observe relevant hearings at the Malmö District Court.
Thank you to our guests for their dedication to protecting human rights.
