Today, The Raoul Wallenberg Institute, in cooperation with the Centre for Applied Legal Research in Zimbabwe, began the 5th Professional Training Programme on Human Rights. It focuses on the equal status and human rights of women.
During five days, twenty participants representing government ministries, the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission, the Gender Commission, the police and prison services, traditional leaders, civil society and academia will discuss international, regional and national standards and mechanisms, including in the Constitution of Zimbabwe, for the promotion and protection of human rights of women.
The programme, which was opened by the Chair of the Zimbabwe Gender Commission, Ms. Margaret Sangarwe, will continue in May with a two-week study visit to Sweden providing more information about the practical application of standards relating to human rights of women. The programme will end in November 2018 with participants’ presentation of individual human rights projects to be implemented under the programme.
The programme forms part of RWI’s Zimbabwe Human Rights Capacity Development Programme 2016-2018.
