The Institute’s acting Director, Mr. Rolf Ring, visited the newly established field office in Cambodia 19-22 January. A series of high-level meetings were carried during Mr. Ring’s short stay in Phnom Penh. Among others, Mr. Ring met with Minister of Education, H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron and Secretary of State H.E Ouch Borith to discuss the Institute’s programme in Cambodia and the establishment and registration of a RWI office in Phnom Penh. Mr. Ring also met with high-level representatives of Pannasastra University, the Royal University of Law and Economics and the Royal School for Judges and Prosecutors. In addition, Mr. Ring met with the Swedish Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E Anna-Maj Hultgård and her colleagues at the very supportive Swedish Embassy in Phnom Penh.
“I am very pleased with all the fruitful and constructive high-level meetings during my short stay in Cambodia” Mr. Ring stated on his way to the airport and continued:
– The Institute’s Cambodia programme is a timely, relevant and unique programme implemented by dedicated staff at the Institute’s office in Phnom Penh in close cooperation with committed partners. Drawing on the Institute’s long experience of supporting Academic Institutions in for example China and Thailand, the programme has a great potential to strengthen human rights education and research in Cambodia
Mr. Ring continued his mission in Southeast Asia to Singapore to take part in an ASEM steering committee meeting followed by meetings in Bangkok before he returns back to Sweden.
