Cambodia in focus

Globala Litteraturbaren (The Global Literature Bar) is a collaboration between The Raoul Wallenberg Institute and Litteraturbaren in Lund. With two public events anually, it will focus on areas and countries where the Institute is active.

On May 14 at the Grand Hotel, Lund, writer Peter Fröberg Idling from Stockholm discussed his two books on Cambodia with moderator and colleague Niklas Törnlund. Mr. Fröberg Idling´s work spans from the fact-finding mission in Pol Pot´s Smile (2006) to last year´s intense novel, Song of the Storm to Come. The story here is set in 1955, when the traumatic upheaval of later decades were yet unforeseeable.

The complexity of Cambodian society was highlighted by the head of the Institute´s new program in Pnom Penh, Andreas Ljungholm. Mr. Ljungholm, who is moving to the Cambodian capital with his family, sees many challenging opportunities for the Institute to contribute to the country´s progress in terms of human rights and international law.
