Today, the Raoul Wallenberg Institute (RWI) had the honour of welcoming Minister for Upper Secondary School, Higher Education and Research Lotta Edholm to our headquarters in Lund. The visit marks an important recognition of the Institute’s role as a leading academic centre for human rights — both in Sweden and internationally.
During the visit, RWI presented the scope of its work, including our close cooperation with Lund University in running one of the world’s top Master’s programmes in human rights. The Minister also had the opportunity to visit our Human Rights Library, the most comprehensive of its kind in Northern Europe.
The Swedish Government’s decision, as part of the 2025 Spring Amending Budget, to allocate SEK 10 million in one-off funding for the library was warmly welcomed. This support significantly strengthens our ability to preserve and develop this unique resource for research, education, and public discourse.
At the same time, the need for long-term financial support remains critical to ensuring the Institute’s academic continuity and future relevance. At a time when democratic values and human rights are being challenged globally, investing in knowledge and education is more important than ever.
“We see the Minister’s visit as a hopeful sign that the Government is ready to work with us to find sustainable pathways forward,” said Peter Lundberg, Executive Director of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute.

Idag hade Raoul Wallenberginstitutet (RWI) äran att välkomna Gymnasie-, högskole- och forskningsminister Lotta Edholm till vårt huvudkontor i Lund. Besöket markerar ett viktigt erkännande av institutets roll som ett ledande akademiskt centrum för mänskliga rättigheter — både i Sverige och internationellt.
Under besöket presenterade RWI omfattningen av sin verksamhet, inklusive vårt nära samarbete med Lunds universitet i att driva en av världens främsta masterutbildningar inom mänskliga rättigheter. Ministern fick även möjlighet att besöka vårt MR-bibliotek, det mest omfattande i sitt slag i norra Europa.
Regeringens beslut, som en del av vårändringsbudgeten 2025, att tilldela biblioteket ett engångsstöd om 10 miljoner kronor togs emot med stor uppskattning. Detta stöd stärker vår förmåga att bevara och vidareutveckla denna unika resurs för forskning, utbildning och samhällsdebatt.
Samtidigt kvarstår behovet av långsiktigt ekonomiskt stöd för att säkerställa institutets akademiska kontinuitet och framtida relevans. I en tid då demokratiska värden och mänskliga rättigheter utmanas globalt är investeringar i kunskap och utbildning viktigare än någonsin.
