During 2015, RWI will again implement a regional research programme with the aim of strengthening research capacity in human rights at Academic Institutions in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. This will be done through practical training in research methodology, academic writing and presentation skills alongside an individual mentorship programme.
Approximately 15-17 participants from the above mentioned countries are invited to the programme, all with individual or group research projects in human rights. Through the programme it is expected that the participants will finalise a research paper and, if possible, present it at an international human rights conference and/or national conferences in the participating countries. The participants will receive thematic and methodological support to carry out and complete their research. The research programme will also be an opportunity to create networks and exchange experiences between the invited participants.
Successful applicants will be expected to produce a research paper on a human rights aspect of their research. In order to support this they will participate in two workshops; one in the beginning of March primarily focusing on research methodology and one in late August focusing on presentation techniques and academic writing. Between the two workshops the participants will be assigned a mentor who will give them guidance and support through the writing and research process.

David Eile
David Eile currently works as a Senior Programme Officer responsible for various projects under RWI’s Europe Office, focusing on different forms of academic cooperation in Europe and Cuba. Since joining RWI in 2006, David worked with various human rights programmes in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America. David has an MA in Anthropology from Lund University and is a doctoral candidate in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Uppsala.
