We are thrilled to announce that Neshan Gunasekera, as part of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute, co-chair, Earth Trusteeship Working Group and Member, World Future Council is joining forces with several partners to co-lead a dynamic workshop session at the upcoming 2024 UN Civil Society Conference in Nairobi. Set to be conducted on the opening day of the Conference on 9 May this collaborative effort promises to ignite conversations and actions towards establishing Earth Trusteeship, as a normative framework built on several efforts over the decades, including the Earth Charter, for actioning global governance innovation.
Under the theme “Shaping a Future of Global and Sustainable Progress,” our session, “Earth Trusteeship: Establishing Representatives for Future Generations,” will delve deep into the principles and practices of Earth Trusteeship and ongoing efforts at representation for future generations. By exploring innovative strategies and inclusive frameworks, we aim to lay the groundwork for representatives dedicated to safeguarding the interests of future generations.
The selection of this workshop from amongst large number of proposals underscores the significance of our shared commitment to innovation, impact, and inclusivity. As we convene among the backdrop of the United Nations Office in Nairobi, we look forward to engage with a diverse stakeholders, including senior UN officials, international civil society organizations, youth changemakers,indigenous leaders and academia. We appreciate the confidence placed in us by the organizers of this Conference.
This collaborative effort not only exemplifies the spirit of partnerships but also highlights our dedication to advancing an action-oriented outcome in the Pact for the Future. Together, let us pave the way for a more sustainable, just, and inclusive world—one where the voices of future generations are not just heard but actively represented and empowered.
