Börje Ljunggren

Börje Ljunggren is the former Swedish ambassador to China and Mongolia (2002-06) and Vietnam (1994-97). Over the years he has served in a number of countries in Asia and has also been the head of the Asia Department of the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Deputy Director General of the Swedish Agency for Development Cooperation (Sida). Currently, Börje Ljunggren is responsible for the coordination of the Stockholm China Forum (GMF) within the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the chairperson of the SEB Asia Council. He also has a number of academic affiliations. He is a member of the board of governors of Lund University and the Cambodian Development Research Institute, an advisor to the China Economic Research Center of the Stockholm School of Economics and an Associate of the Harvard University Asia Center and the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies. He holds a Ph. D. in political science and has published a number of books and articles on Asia including The Challenge of Reform in Indochina (HIID/Harvard University Press, 1993). His book Kina: vår tids drama (China: the Drama of our Time) was published in the spring of 2008. He has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute since 2008.
