Panel Debate: Workers’ Rights in an Evolving World of Work

Collective bargaining, workplace regulation and labour rights. In an evolving world, these areas are challenges for the world’s workers. How are we to handle an ageing population and a complex interplay – and often tension – between regulation at different levels?

In this panel debate, organized by the Faculty of Law at Lund University, in cooperation with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute and the International Labour and Employment Relations Association (ILERA), these areas and challenges will be discussed from three perspectives by Janice Bellace, Mia Rönnmar and Kari Tapiola. The debate will be moderated by Lee Swepston.

Janice Bellace is Professor of Legal Studies and Business Ethics and Management at Wharton School. Her research interests cover American and European labour law and employment relations and international human rights. Janice is also Past-President of ILERA

Mia Rönnmar is Professor of Private Law and Dean at the Faculty of Law at Lund University. She specializes in Swedish, comparative and EU labour law and employment relations. She is also President-Elect of ILERA and a member of the Norma Research Programme at Lund University.

Kari Tapiola served as Deputy Director-General and Executive Director of the ILO. Kari has dealt especially with questions of international labour standards and fundamental principles and rights at work.

Lee Swepston received his legal education at Columbia Law School. He is a former senior official of the ILO, where he worked in the fields of international labour standards, human rights and indigenous and tribal peoples, subjects on which he has written extensively.
