Anne Ramberg, the Secretary General of the Swedish Bar Association, has been named the 12th annual Anna Lindh speaker. Her speech is titled “Business and Human Rights – Can Business Meet the Challenge?”
“At a time when powerful business interests operate in a world facing threat from war, environmental issues, mass migration, and a fight over raw materials, it is important that the private sector accepts and makes a reality the humanistic values that human rights are built upon,” says Ramberg.
The lecture will be held on 6 October at 18:00 in the University Auditorium, Main University Building, Paradisgatan 2, Lund.
Ramberg will also discuss the increasingly important role lawyers play during a time when, in a number of places around the world, the space for civil engagement is shrinking or threatened.
Morten Kjaerum, the director of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute, says there is a movement for increased corporate accountability around the world. “This is a question for all countries alike,” he says. “A speech that develops further how business in concrete terms can contribute to ensuring human rights is of high importance.”
This is the 12th year in a row that the Raoul Wallenberg Institute and Lund University, in cooperation with the Anna Lindh Memorial Fund and Lund University’s Association of Foreign Affairs, organizes the lecture.
The Anna Lindh Lecture pays homage to the Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs who was assassinated in 2003.
