Nils Erik Åhmansson studied law at Lund University. After serving at a district court he joined the Swedish Police Service. He served as superintendent and chief superintendent before he was seconded to the Ministry of Justice as an expert on police matters for seven years. Subsequently he was appointed Deputy County Police Commissioner in Stockholm, Police Commissioner in Malmö, County Police Commissioner in Malmö County and finally National Police Commissioner of Sweden. After Nils Erik Åhmansson’s police career he worked for the insurance company Skandia as Senior Vice President and head of information and public affairs. Upon his retirement from Skandia he now serves as Chairman of the board of the Swedish Theft Prevention Council, Vice Chairman of the board of The Swedish Traffic Safety Association, President of the Swedish Kennelclub, Chairman of the board of the listed company Homemaid and Chairman of the board of the security company Säkert Företag. He has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute since 2001
