Mandatory course on fair trial rights

This first mandatory human rights course for lawyer trainees in Cambodia is a joint cooperation between the Institute, the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Cambodian Lawyers’ Centre under the Bar Association. The course is focused on fair trial rights and the 55 students are meeting international and national experts on human rights and fair trial rights, including lawyers, prosecutors and judges from the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC). With assistance from UN Women, syllabus and material have been gender mainstreamed and all lectures have taken part in a discussion on how to avoid gender stereotyping in teaching. One comment on the course: – “This is an excellent course! It should be offered to others as well”.
